SYNTHESIS
• Describe how new technologies have led to the convergence of traditional and new media.
Traditional media, as we all know, has some undeniable deficiencies when it comes to the speed and the number of production of information dissemination. In line with this, as our technologies continue to develop and advance each day, the need and opportunity in enhancing traditional media arise as well. To this end, people have established to integrate new media with traditional media in order to have faster and more productive dissemination of information.
• Explain how media convergence creates new opportunities for interaction.
Media convergence creates new opportunities for interaction because traditional and new media complement each other’s flaws and weaknesses. Traditional media provides all of the information while new media becomes the medium for easier and faster communication. For example, traditional media includes the use of handwritten letters, which take a long time before it gets delivered to the receiver; this flaw of the traditional media is then fixed by the new media, and by using the example mentioned, it can be said that electronic mails or emails were created in order to have a faster and more accessible interaction.
• Describe the use of one or two forms of new media to share knowledge and information on a current issue in society.
Nowadays, current issues can be found everywhere. For instance, Facebook or other social networking sites such as Twitter, YouTube, Yahoo, etc. which are examples of new media, are now used to spread news, updates, and other important information because people can easily access these. With different social networking sites at hand, spreading news are now as easy as one click, however, one must always be vigilant to “fake news” and unreliable sources.
• Explain how a person could be portrayed in public in the age of media convergence.
A person could be portrayed in public in the age of media convergence because through this, facts and information about a person can now be easily dispersed, therefore allowing the public to have an access to it, which is very essential in raising awareness about certain persons worth-publicizing about.
